The design of Yinchuan Sunac City is unique in its approach. Arch-Age Design opted for a minimalistic design, integrating circular blocks and soft, neat curved elements into the field design. The result is a structure that resembles a strand of silk floating on the lake, embracing Gedi Lake in a natural and elegant way. The half-moon shaped roof tilts and extends toward the lake, supported by perforated slender columns, creating a stunning visual effect, especially in the evening when the built-in light strips glow, making the roof appear as if it's suspended in the sky.
Arch-Age Design utilized contemporary techniques to realize this design. The artificial stone wall corresponds to the perforated panel curtain wall, customized to reflect the shape of Malan flowers, Yinchuan's city flower. The facade facing the lake adopts a transparent tempered hollow glass curtain wall, matched with pear white roofing aluminum panels, resulting in a crystal and lightweight appearance. This 450 square meter project is a perfect blend of innovative design and local cultural elements.
The building's interaction with its surroundings is another aspect that sets it apart. The ring-shaped structure floats on the lakeside, blending seamlessly into the park's overall planning. The slanted roof connects to the bridge, blurring the boundary between the building space and the lake, bringing people closer to nature. The transparent tempered hollow glass curtain wall on the facade facing the lake embraces the outdoor scenes, allowing visitors to sit around the lake and enjoy the view.
The project, which started in November 2019 and finished in July 2020, faced several challenges. The slanting half-moon-shaped rooftop caused the variation of structural beams, and the two large overhangs needed to be independent from the main rooftop structure. To overcome these challenges, the architects used curtain walls as an envelope to weaken the splicing relationship between the two wings and the main rooftop structure. They also adopted slim perforated pillars to support the wings, thereby making the rooftop "float" above water.
Yinchuan Sunac City by Arch-Age Design is a winner of the prestigious Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021. This award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. It is a testament to Arch-Age Design's ability to create a design that not only serves a functional purpose but also enhances the aesthetic and cultural value of its surroundings.
